International Coffee Day is held on the 1st of October every year. For more than 600 years, coffee beans have been around the world, taking the daily journey from tropical Africa to breakfast cups in homes around the world and preparing coffee for consumption is a great example of transformation. Mankind has always prepared coffee for many offerings: drinks, sweets, medicines, and some ancient civilizations even used it as currency. No matter how you drink it, coffee can energize you, warm you up, rejuvenate you, keep you awake, and even catch up with your loved ones.

According to historical records, coffee is originally from Ethiopia and its discovery in Africa has an interesting history. Around 700 A.D., a herd of goats began behaving strangely, as if they were dancing. Their owner, Kaldi, discovered that they were eating a type of red bean and concluded that this was the reason for their behavior. Kaldi decided to share his findings with a monk who needed something that could help him stay up all night while praying, But another story claims that the monk refused and threw the beans into the fire and the pleasant aroma that emanated was simply wonderful.

Suddenly, coffee made its way north to Yemen in the 15th century, where the beans called "Mocha" arrived. Soon, they became famous in Egypt, Persia, and Turkey as "wine from Arabia" and began to open cafes under the name "Schools of the Wise."

Finally, after so long amongst mankind in 2014, the International Coffee Organization announced October 1 as International Coffee Day, an occasion to raise awareness of the plight of coffee growers and to celebrate coffee as a beverage.
